Enipeas Tunnel
Metsovo – Greece
Solarspot® installed: N° 49 D530

In seeking to meet their needs and requirements, humans sometimes take actions that disrupt the natural environment.
In this particular case, a tunnel several metres long was built to connect the two banks of a river, with the aim of making additional land available for cultivation. During the migration season, wild trout swim along this river to reach their spawning grounds.
Fish are known to use sunlight for orientation, and the construction of this long tunnel would have blocked natural light, potentially disorienting the trout and disrupting their migration route.
The 49 Solarspot® systems installed therefore took on the role of underwater “guiding lights”, helping the fish navigate the tunnel and continue their journey towards their spawning grounds.
